World Series Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball announced this represents the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday epic game secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American average reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M watchers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
